Apple's Clips Social Media Video App Available for iPhone, iPad
Apr 07, 2017, 02:01
Head on over to the App Store-Apple launched its new Clips video-editing app for iOS on Thursday. Think of it like a cross between the iPhone's Memories feature, which automatically generates montages from your photo library, and iMovie.
Perhaps once you take the time to learn how Apple Clips works, then learn all the limitations, you can start making good videos. Instead, the company wants to help you create videos to post to existing social networks in the hopes that you'll eventually see Clips as an indispensable tool for sharing to your social networks. Video can be captured in the app, or you can use videos you previously recorded and stored in Photos.
Clips is a video editing tool created to weave together photos and videos, all while letting users add elements like filters, emojis and text.
The free app, which was announced a couple of weeks ago, enables users to combine clips from their camera rolls and add a host of filters, graphics text and emojis. You can also reorder your clips when making a movie. The interface is more intuitive than that of Snapchat, which hides its features behind swipes and taps. Thankfully, you can jump in and edit those captions if you need to. But Apple has a different approach for adding captions. It's clearly made for an era in which people often watch videos on their phone with the sound off. That's because only the microphone on the back of your iPhone is activated when recording with the rear camera, so you usually have to speak louder for it to pick anything up.
Those use cases just scratch the surface of what Clips can be used to create. Next to that, there's a filter button that changes the look of your video with one of eight filters, and the third button at the top of the app, which looks like a star, is for inserting images.
Just don't try to make a fancy Clips video to share while you're out in social settings.
It's also possible to share via iMessage, while it also plays nice with the Photos app's facial recognition tech to suggest people to tag and share with.
When a Clip is finished, it can be saved to your Photos app or uploaded to social networks like Facebook and Instagram.
