Harrison Ford: I'm a 'schmuck' for wrong landing, close call with airliner

On February 13, Ford accidentally landed his single-engine plane on a taxiway, instead of a runway, at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA.

No one was injured in the incident, and the American Airlines jet was delayed only about 10 minutes before taking off for DFW International Airport.

Obtained by TMZ, the Hollywood star can be heard identifying himself as the "schmuck who landed on the taxiway" during the clip. There is also tape of a phone call from the captain of the 737 that Ford overflew who told a tower staffer that he was compelled to report the incident.

The recordings of Ford's conversations with air traffic controllers were released by the Federal Aviation Administration. The actor mentioned he had become distracted by the airliner and the wake turbulence from the landing Airbus.

The air traffic controller also warns Ford that he will need to "fill out some paperwork" documenting the mistaken landing, in the FAA recording.

A video released last month showed Ford's Aviat Husky plane as it descended towards the airfield where an American Airlines Boeing 737 was slowly taxiing.

"The tail of my airplane is 42 feet tall", Patton said to Willard.

"I landed on Taxiway Charlie?" "You get an idea how close we were", he said.

"It was definitely not a good position for him to be in", Willard says in the audio.

After the 2015 incident, Tom Haines with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association told CNN that he had flown with Ford in the past.

Ford collects vintage planes and has been a pilot for years. The plane crashed into a golf course in Santa Monica and Ford suffered head injuries and a broken arm.
