The troublesome prank, which has been doing the rounds on social media throughout the last week, should be avoided at all costs. 108 is the emergency number that is used in India.
This prank is problematic because it uses resources that are vital for others trying to receive help in real emergency situations.
If you tell Siri to call three numbers you could hold up emergency lines, and they're not 911.
Calling 999 when you have no reason to do so adds strain to an already overstretched call system. It's one thing to call a friend and pretend that you're his crush and trick him into coming to a bogus meeting, and it's an entirely different thing to prank-call the emergency center. And could have potentially fatal consequences. Fake calls are punishable under United Kingdom law, which defines a hoax caller as "a person who for the purposes of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another, sends, or causes to be sent, by means of a public electronic communications network, a message that the person knows to be false".
Other numbers to look-out for include 112, 110, 000 and 911.
