After WhatsApp and Instagram, Facebook turns Messenger into Snapchat

Still, it's as blatant of a Snapchat Stories clone as Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status, and Facebook Stories. As such, the images and videos that go into Messenger will disappear after 24 hours. The social media giant first began testing this feature in Poland a year ago and finally, the update has been rolled out on Android and iOS globally. After you send a photo or video, the option to Add to your day pops up and once you confirm that, it will be added automatically.

You're always in control of who can see your day - share it with everyone, or choose specific friends and family members on Messenger.

Some users have taken to Twitter to complain about the update.

After updating the Facebook Messenger app, the camera icon at the bottom of the screen will turn into a Sun marking the arrival of the feature. But if you're used to Snapchat and Instagram Stories, then this should be a cinch.

Facebook-owned Instagram has not-so-subtly followed in Snapchat's path for many of its recent feature additions, and now Facebook's own Messenger app is doing the same.

What is Facebook Messenger Day?

Lastly, Messenger Day makes it really simple to elegantly add text to your posts. From within the app, you can choose clips or pics from a chat, or shoot a brand new picture or video, and add them to your "Day".

Facebook on 9 March announced a new feature in its Messenger mobile app.

"It's about where I want to take my day, like "I'm bored and I want to go out for coffee" or "I want to go see a movie" so I'm going to use a frame, take a photo, and see which of my friends are going to engage with me to actually make that plan, because planning is one of the core capabilities of a messaging app", Facebook's VP of messaging David Marcus told TechCrunch. You use Messenger's built-in camera to snap pictures or videos; add text, doodles, cartoon overlays, or facial filters; and then drop this content into a little digital bundle (your "Day") that all or some of your friends can access, and that deletes itself every 24 hours. This is your chance to snap a photo or video, after which you can add effects.

To choose certain people who can see your Day, tap the Profile icon, tap My Day, tap Custom, and then choose who can see your day. They will be shared with whoever you want.

You can also add to your day from a conversation you're having with a friend or group of people.
