Jets pick up draft pick; Giants fall 10 spots as punishment

Meanwhile, reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Dak Prescott was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with their fourth-round pick last year.

The Rams' 2017 draft class got deeper Friday when they were awarded two compensatory picks by the NFL. It's worth noting that comp picks can now be traded, so teams that the Saints may want to do business with have more draft capital to use to navigate the board.

Compensatory draft picks can be confusing to some, so here's a quick explanation of how they are awarded.

Today the league announced which teams will be receiving compensatory picks for the upcoming NFL draft.

Compensatory selections are determined by a formula that incorporates the net gains and losses from the previous year's unrestricted free-agent signing period.

This is also the first year in which teams can trade compensatory picks.

Miami received two compensatory selections while Los Angeles and the Seahawks received two each. It marks the third consecutive year and fourth time since 2012 the Browns hold double-digit picks. In that draft, Jerry Jones and the front office took Prescott with one of those compensatory picks. Since his hiring in 2013, Gettleman has not been shy to package picks to move up, as evidenced by his deals for wideout Devin Funchess and cornerbacks Bené Benwikere and, more recently, Daryl Worley. The formula is based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Last season they were awarded three picks. With four picks in the first three rounds, it is certainly possible.

The Cardinals, who hold the 13th overall pick in the draft, now hold eight selections overall.
