Simmons to find as early as Monday if foot is fully healed

The 20-year-old forward from Melbourne suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal last September 30 on the final day of a pre-season training camp.

Simmons has been practicing with the Sixers on a limited basis over the past few weeks, but he's yet to progress to the point where he's playing five-on-five.

Citing a source, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey reported "a foot scan on January 23 showed that his foot was not fully healed".

Sources added that Simmons will visit the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY next week for a second opinion. Although Pompey has confirmed that the team has kept Simmons out of scrimmages to reduce the risk of a repeat injury.

"His next CT scan is scheduled for February 23", Colangelo said, "after which our medical team will thoroughly review and evaluate his status moving forward".

Brown did say he expected to see Simmons in a 76ers outfit sometime this year. "It is our expectation that he will get on a court". Due to players being out-of-town, the 76ers will refrain from throwing Simmons into any 5-on-5 drills once the All-Star break transpires. "We're trying to be very careful".

Despite developments, Philadelphia head coach Brett Brown is optimistic that Simmons can make his anticipated debut after the All-Star break. "But I think the path right now is solid", he added. The Sixers would likely be even better right now had 2016 No. 1 draft pick Ben Simmons been available, but he has been injured since before the season.
