IPhone 8 to ditch the home button for "function area"

IPhone 8 to ditch the home button for

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming device will feature a "function area" that will display virtual buttons. Currently, the consensus in the rumor mill states that the iPhone 8 would feature Apple's homegrown A11 processor, a brand new glass and metal frame as well as innovative features such as long-range wireless charging, an iris scanner and IP68 water resistance.

Ever since the iPhone was released back in 2007 the single feature that owners have craved for the most above all else has been a longer battery life. That bezel-less iPhone model would be somewhat similar to the Xiaomi Mi Mix handset. There's no word on how the Touch ID and the front facing camera would get placed. According to today's report, this plant will miss the launch of the iPhone 8, though it will begin outputting displays this summer. Also, the screen may carry curves on both the sides just like the Samsung's Galaxy Edge series phones.

While it's hard to imagine Apple completely doing away with a technology as popular, seamless, useful and secure as Touch ID, there are a number of reports pointing to Apple incorporating 3D laser technology to achieve a robust verification system based on facial recognition software. That would also mean changes might happen in the internal components arrangement of the iPhone.

Apple's stock recently traded at 14.3 times expected earnings, the highest level since April 2015 and significantly higher than the average price-earnings ratio of 12 over the past five years, according to Thomson Reuters Datastream. "Thanks to stacked SLP, we expect the OLED iPhone to have similar dimensions to a 4.7" TFT-LCD iPhone, and have comparable battery capacity (equipped with around 2,700 mAh L-shaped 2-cell battery pack) to a 5.5" TFT-LCD iPhone. Although, there would be two other iPhone models so the hefty price tag may not impact the sales directly. He does, however, say that the OLED iPhone will be "the only bright spot" in the 2017 iPhone lineup, suggesting only minor improvements for the other two rumored devices.
