United Kingdom woman's 150-year-old wedding dress recovered

A bride who lost her 150-year-old wedding dress made by her great-grandmother is set to be reunited with the antique treasure following an appeal.

After her own wedding in June 2016, Tess send the dress to the dry cleaners in Edinburgh in September. The wedding gown was found months later after it got lost by the distressed bride with help from social media and the internet. "He checked what was left by the administrators and found a crumpled heap of antique lace on the floor", she penned on her update, which was shared 303,000 times and liked 46,000 times.

It was handed back to the family on Monday by two officials from the sequestrators dealing with Kleen Cleaners financial affairs.

The original post was shared by more than 280,000 people across the United Kingdom and as far afield as Denmark, Sweden and Australia.

The dress was a family heirloom from the 1870s, which had belonged to the great-great-grandmother of Tess Newall from the town of Morham in the East Lothian region of Scotland.

The antique gown was made and first worn by Dora Torin, who married her hat-maker husband Ernest in Edinburgh, and was rediscovered by Tess in pristine condition in her 88-year-old grandmother's attic.

A recent Facebook post shared by Tess Newall about the loss of her dress was shared more than 300,000 times. "It seems that the dress was taken to be sold so it could be winging its way anywhere".

"Please share this far and wide in case anyone stumbles across it!"

We all know that social media has enormous power when it comes to reaching out far away corners of the world. "When they called me with the incredible news, I was overjoyed but also very frustrated, as in a odd twist a man from the administration company arrived just before my parents were leaving with the dress and said we had to wait until Monday for 'procedural issues, '" she told Brides. Thanks to her post, someone involved with the property took a closer look. My family can't thank you all enough.

"We received a phone call from the very kind landlord of the shop property who read about it through this unbelievable response". Tess Newall still plans to have the dress cleaned, but probably at a lace specialist in London where it would be more secured.
