South Korea vows 'corresponding' response over missile launch by North

North Korea launched a missile into its eastern sea on Sunday, according to the South Korean military.
North Korea fired off a ballistic missile in the direction of the East Sea earlier in the day, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Sunday.
"Our assessment is that the North is attempting to attract attention by showing off its nuclear and missile capabilities and to make a show of force to counter against the new USA administration's hardline stance toward North Korea", the JCS said about the launch on Sunday.
Yet another attempt to force Pyongyang to abandon its efforts are the six-party talks on turning the peninsula into a nuclear-free zone launched in 2003 with participation of North Korea, South Korea, Russia, the United States, China and Japan.
North Korea's latest ballistic missile test was, to a certain degree, expected, a US official revealed.

Since Kim Jong-un took over from his father in December 2011 as the supreme leader, the nuclear threat from North Korea has increased exponentially. The missile is said to have been launched at 07:55 local time (22:55 GMT Saturday), and flew east towards the Sea of Japan.
According to Yonhap news agency, Hwang says South Korea in tandem with the worldwide community "is doing its best to ensure a corresponding response to punish the North" for its missile launch. Officials added that the North had launched its powerful midrange Musudan missiles on October 15 and 20, 2016, from that location, raising the likelihood that it was a missile.
