Gov. to sign bill making Missouri 28th right-to-work state

"It's sad to see Governor Greitens and the Republican legislature cave to big donors, corporations and special interests at the expense of Missouri's working families." said Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1 member and Kauffman Stadium Concessions Worker Vanessa Coleman.

Missouri's new law will take effect August 28th. Iowa enacted its Right-to-Work law in 1947. The debate has raged on ever since. "Missourians are ready to work, and now our state is open for business". "If passed, Senate Bill 210 would have monumental impact on the rights and freedoms of Missouri workers".

Another would change minimum-wage requirements for some public construction workers.

The measure makes Missouri the 28th right-to-work state in the nation. However, if they work for a unionized business, they still benefit from the union contract - federal law requires it. But proponents believe this is a good thing, arguing it makes states more attractive to businesses and spurs economic growth, while opponents disagree. He says you find weaker unions where there are right-to-work laws - but it's not clear which leads to which. Right-To-Work means no one can be forced to join or pay money to a union as a condition of employment.
