President Trump Open to Joint Russia-US Strikes In Syria

"The Department of Defense is not coordinating airstrikes with the Russian military in Syria", Rankine-Galloway said.

Russia Defense Ministry said in a statement: "On January 22, the Russian command center at the Khmeimim airbase has received coordinates of Daesh targets in Al-Bab, Aleppo province, via the "direct line" from the US-led coalition headquarters".

The Pentagon on Monday denied that it had coordinated air strikes with Russian Federation in Syria, after Russia's defense ministry said the United States had provided coordinates for Islamic State militants.

U.S. Air Force Col. John Dorrian, a spokesperson for the U.S. -led coalition against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, called the Russian claim "rubbish", saying communications between U.S. and Russian forces active in Syria were maintained only for "deconfliction" and to avoid unintended and potentially risky overlaps in the country's respective missions.

U.S. Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman, said the U.S. has insisted for months that it has no coordination or sharing of targets with Russian Federation.

A Russian Su-24M fighter and a Su-34 bomber, accompanied by Turkish F-16 and two F-4 jets carried out the attack, Russian officials claim. Moscow supports Syrian President Bashar Assad in the country's almost 6-year-old civil war.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters Monday the U.S.is willing to "work with any country that shares our interest in defeating ISIS", and later mentioned Russian Federation specifically.

But Donald Trump, inaugurated as US president on Friday, has vowed to improve US-Russia relations and align himself more closely with Putin, often lavishing praise on the Russian president. The previous Administration refused to work directly with Russian Federation due to it's support for Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, who has carried out horrific human rights offenses as he seeks to suppress a civil war.
