National Security Advisor Michael Flynn's Ties to Russia Are Under Investigation

Still, the revelation that the calls of the new White House national security adviser were investigated creates a hard situation for law enforcement and the intelligence community, which has been at odds with the new Trump administration over its handling of the Russian hackings.
Trump has said he would consider nixing sanctions against the former Cold War rival on the condition Russian Federation improves its bilateral relationship with the US on battling terrorists.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and Treasury Department have all inquired into the extent of Flynn's contact with the Russian government, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Sunday. Mr. Flynn, a retired general who became national security adviser with Mr. Trump's inauguration, plays a key role in setting US policy toward Russian Federation. The former President took the action, which included imposing sanctions on Russian Federation, in response to the country's alleged hacking of the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) computers and interfering with the United States presidential election.
The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, said it is unclear whether the counterintelligence probe produced any incriminating evidence or whether it is ongoing.
In his position, he will play a key role in helping to set the president's policies toward Russian Federation. Flynn, however, is also allegedly being investigated - and he has an office in the West Wing. General Michael Flynn to Russia's Washington ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, are now part of a broader investigation into contact between Trump and Russian Federation. He has appeared on Russia Today and received a speaking fee from the cable network, which was described in last week's unclassified intelligence briefing on Russian hacking as "the Kremlin's principal global propaganda outlet".
Most recently, Flynn spoke to Russia's US ambassador Sergey Kislyak on multiple occasions, including at least one phone call on December 29 when former President Obama announced sweeping sanctions against Russian Federation in retaliation for allegedly leaking hacked emails from top members of the Democratic Party.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who demonstrated a penchant for lying his first day on the job, said the calls merely focused on organizing a conversation between the president and Vladimir Putin.
