A Whistler, B.C., snowboarder can thank his inflatable avalanche backpack for saving his life Wednesday.
In the video, 29-year-old Tom Oye starts at the top of the slope, and within seconds is carried away by an overwhelming amount of snow.
He managed to escape unscathed, if a bit shaken, from the incident.
According to his social media account, the Adelaide native now lives in Whistler, Canada, where the dramatic near-death experience occurred.
Oye's heavy breaths can be heard in the terrifying footage before the sky suddenly appears, the sun once again shining down on him.
"Some of the results we were seeing from our tests were quite scary, it was very reactive", he said. "It could have been a million dollars but it would have been worth it", she said.
He said: "You could just see him sort of on the surface". The Black Diamond bag Oye wore costs $1,100 (£900, AU$1,470), and his friends recently gave it to him as a gift.
If a skiier, snowboarder or other back-country user should find themselves in an avalanche, the Jetforce can be activated by pulling on a cord on the pack's shoulder strap, as demonstrated below by Oye in another Facebook post.
