M62 Police Shooting In Huddersfield Leaves One Man Dead

West Yorkshire police said the operation "related to information received about criminal possession of a firearm", and was not related to terrorism.

The man, identified as 27-year-old Mohammed Yasser Yaqub, was killed in a vehicle near junction 24 of the M62 in Huddersfield at around 6 PM yesterday, The Telegraph reported.

A group of men apparently protesting against the shooting of a man on the M62 in West Yorkshire have led to a road being closed tonight.

. However, three cars can be seen - a Mercedes E Class, a Jaguar and an Audi.

The identity of the man who died at the scene has not yet been released.

A spokesman said those arrested had required hospital treatment for injuries "not related to firearm discharge".

The charity, which primarily focuses on deaths in police custody, said it had collected the data from its own monitoring and casework rather than relying on Home Office figures.

Police say they are cooperating with the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed there were five arrests during the operation - three at the scene and another two from a related stop of another vehicle in the Chain Bar area of Bradford at around the same time.

West Yorkshire Police said it was "fully co-operating" with the watchdog's investigators.

The slip roads east and westbound at junction 24 of the M62 was closed.

No officers were injured and the incident, which took place close to junction 24 near Huddersfield, is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Last night's operation is believed to be the fifth fatal police shooting in England and Wales in nine months.
