Most Filipinos support Duterte's war on drugs

Independent research institute Social Weather Survey released its fourth quarter 2016 findings showing that 85 percent of the 1,500 adults interviewed nationwide said they were satisfied with the Duterte government's performance in the anti-drug drive.

Close to 78% of Filipinos have said they fear that they might be targeted in President Rodrigo Duterte's bloody campaign against illegal drugs and become a victim of extrajudicial killings, an opinion poll has found.

The SWS survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews on December 3-6, with the results posted online on Monday.

Most Filipinos also agreed that it was important to keep drug suspects alive. Another 3,000 deaths, some attributed to masked men on motorcycles or vigilantes, are under investigation.

The survey results come amid worries over the high body count seemingly resulting from Duterte's war on drugs.

The results of the noncommissioned survey, which had a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3 percentage points, were posted online on Monday.

"I am not surprised with the conundrum that people acknowledge that the anti-drug campaign is fitting, so they allow it".

Communications Secretary Martin M. Andanar said in a separate mobile phone reply that the "people's satisfaction and their opinion that the level and extent of drug problem in their respective areas had lowered underscore the success of the first phase of President Duterte's anti-drug war".

Of this 39 percent said EJK was very serious, 30 percent said it was somewhat serious, 22 percent was undecided, while six percent believe it was "somewhat not serious" and, three percent said it was "not serious at all".

"Twenty-eight percent of respondents said that police were telling the truth (nine percent "definitely the truth", 19% "probably the truth") while 29% (16% definitely not the truth, 13% probably not the truth") believed that the police are not telling the truth.

He said policemen who were accused of violating the proper procedures in enforcing the law would be held accountable.
