A group of marine biologists spotted four killer whales eating a massive shark in Monterey Bay, although the animal was still alive.
The incredible video has been shot by a wildlife photographer Slater Moore while he was whale watching in California's Monterey Bay. The adult whales may have been teaching their calves how to hunt, which lends the shark-eating event a bit of quality family-time flair.

Moore captured the rare footage with a camera mounted on a drone while he was aboard SeaWolfe II for a whale watching tour.
"And all of a sudden one of them brought it up, brought up the whole shark - and it was still alive, it was squirming around", said marine biologist Katlyn Taylor via The Verge, as per Nature World News. These animals have rarely been seen hunting because they stay underwater most of the time, feeding on sharks and squids.
The unlucky predator-turned-prey is believed to be a sevengill shark, which can top 7 feet (2 meters) in length. The sevengill shark was formerly known as the cow shark or mud shark.
Alisa Schulman-Janiger, a whale researcher who was with Martin, said there were 10-15 offshore killer whales in the group, but that smaller sub-groups were spread out over a large area. Scientists that studied killer whales' carcasses washed ashore discovered pieces of shark in their stomach. Nevertheless, these elusive orcas have been spotted multiple times while they were traveling from southern California to Alaska.
According to Taylor, studying offshore killer whales is very hard because they are fast swimmers.
She added via Monterey County Weekly that what makes the video unique is its perspective, giving us a glimpse on how offshore killers eat. "That's part of the fun though, you never know what's going to happen", Taylor said.
