Facebook Messenger gets a new camera that's basically Snapchat

The company is looking to improve the overall user experience by providing new and exciting features without ignoring the necessity of bug squashing and error fixing so you can expect a lot of that in the new build. Some of these are existing assets that have been available on the Messenger platform, but many are new thanks to partnerships with various artists and influencers around the world. You can begin snapping pictures, which takes one tap, or shooting video, which requires a long press, straight away.

Facebook (FB) is taking aim at Snapchat, again, with a huge update to its Messenger app. From here, snapping photos or creating videos should be much smoother, and once you have your shot, editing is also made easier. As of today, those conversations will be better than ever with Messenger's launch of a brand new, faster and easier-to-use camera that features unique art and 3D special effects.

Once the app is updated (rolling out globally over the next few days), users will see a shutter button front and center on the bottom, meaning quick access to your camera.

Facebook Messenger just received a massive update in the camera department, bringing forth a ton of great new features. Snapchat is ephemeral, but your photos and videos in Messenger are here to stay as a part of your shared photo album.

The data is showing that people are now communicating more using art with the usage of emojis and stickers becoming even more popular than the written word. Facebook will change the design periodically to notify you about seasonal holiday events and new effects that have been added.

In addition to filters, the new camera will include thousands of stickers, frames and 3D face masks for users to choose from, and will extend these features to text messages as well.

Messenger is all about capturing a moment.
