Showtime's 60 Minutes Sports investigates Baylor's mishandling of sexual assault cases

Interviewer: Here it is, and you'll notice here Baylor University was contacted as part and parcel of the investigation of this incident report.

Crawford said on Wednesday, Baylor needs to focus on itself and not on her.

Crawford says when she did meet with him about what victims' were saying, Ramsower questioned the victims' sanity.

"That's what we talked about this week, I said this has to be very clear that at this point, no one is going to know, other than our office, who these people are, what their names are, where this is going", Crawford says.

"There was a cultural issue there that was putting winning football games above everything else, including our values. we did not have a caring community when it came to these women who reported that they were assaulted".

That coach was Jim Barnes, Baylor's all-time winningest volleyball coach.

McCaw resigned days after Art Briles was sacked as head football coach and Ken Starr was sacked as president May 26.

Still, I hated him as I would have hated any Baylor coach- and though he certainly did have his share of scumbag moments and allowed behavior that stoked coach Patterson's ire, a hypothetical "HawkeyedBear" would likely have been defending Briles and commenting on Patterson's own sideline fire. Last Saturday there were reports coming in that the Texas students were chanting "Rapists" at the Baylor players, which was later qualified to be "Rape enablers" at the coaching staff.

Baylor regents spoke publicly for the first time on the findings of Pepper Hamilton, the law firm that investigated the way the university deals with sexual assault.

When Crawford tried to get reports directly from the police, she got an email from a university vice president telling her that Waco police "do not want the actual police reports turned over to Title IX".

Crawford said her work became more hard after July.

KWTX obtained a secretly recorded audio tape of the discussion between Crawford and members of the athletic staff in which Crawford expressed frustration with the administration.

As she had in the 60 Minutes Sports story, Crawford pointed to the actions of Reagan Ramsower, her boss and a senior vice president and CFO at Baylor, hindering her ability to do her job.

Ramsower denied telling her not to put anything in writing.

Crawford also told the group she felt like the football team had been unfairly targeted, noting just two football players have been convicted of sexual assault during Briles' tenure at Baylor.

"In one case, specifically, he said these women were mentally ill", Crawford said.

"For more than three years, the board's leadership had worked to ease me out of the CEO role and slot me instead into the non-executive position of chancellor, primarily a fundraiser", Starr said.

Though administrators helped the woman when she reported the harassment before Crawford was hired, the woman said they were not trained on Title IX issues and did not provide the remedies and resources that Crawford did. Four were alleged gang rapes in 2012.

"You should know, while the lawyers from Pepper Hamilton gave presentations to the Board of Regents and some administrators about their findings, they never created or delivered a written report", Garland said.

Crawford agreed to a settlement offer during a daylong mediation of a retaliation complaint she filed, but then quit after refusing an additional amount of money to sign a confidentiality agreement, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations. The Baylor investigation did end with Armstead being expelled. "Athletics does coordinate many activities outside of other groups, and it is fine, but this seemed like one that Title IX could have been looped in on".
