Trump transition team fundraises with Christie email

"We've been hard at work developing an action plan for what comes next after Mr. Trump wins - including appointing a cabinet, lifting bad regulations and executive orders and crafting a bold legislative agenda", Christie said. The New York Post reports Trump's campaign manager at the time, Paul Manafort, and Trump's two sons allegedly pressured the businessman to pick Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate instead.

The nearly perverse humbling of Christie continues, with an item in the New York Post published Sunday, in which an unnamed source close to the Trump campaign claims that Trump offered the vice presidential slot to Christie, but changed his mind at the last minute. Manafort told Trump that his plane had mechanical trouble so Trump was forced to stay in Indianapolis for one more day.

In the aftermath of the release of Trump's lewd Access Hollywood tape, Christie told WFAN radio that he condemned that "kind of talk and conversation, even in private" to Trump.

A source told the Post that Trump was looking for a running mate who was loyal, not necessarily the most qualified.

"Christie said he thinks he deserves it and he earned it", a second Trump source said.

Christie "said all the BS that Trump likes to hear, and Trump said, 'Yeah, sure I'm giving it to you, '" the second source said.

With a week to go before the GOP convention in July, Trump had not made his choice among Christie, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

'He'd lose the advantage of not being corrupt'.

Swayed by Pence's aggressive pitch, Trump agreed to ditch Christie and make Pence his VP the following day, according to a source. If Christie had been on the ticket, the national media would have savaged him, not only for Bridgegate, but he would have been portrayed as virulently anti-union for his part in standing up to the teacher's union and other public employee unions in New Jersey.

Ultimately, Christie's involvement with the Bridgegate scandal would have turned him into a liability for the Trump campaign.
