Brees hot as Saints take first lead

It was everything ABC Television hoped for, an offensive show full of big plays. Brees will have the likes of Mark Ingram, Brandin Cooks, Coby Fleener, and Willie Snead at his disposal in what could be an explosive offense but it is the play of their defense that will be key in how far this team will go this season and while they made some nice additions it'll be interesting to see how well they can play early on.

Fast forward to September 11, 2016. Well, the Saints love to use the tight end. The Saints defeated the Giants 52-49.

Then Jack Del Rio pushed his chips into the middle of the table and went for two.

Dennis Allen has yet to find much success in New Orleans, either.

The outcome could have been different if the Saints can ever solve their revolving door situation at kicker. Make field goals, especially indoors.

Brees admitted on Wednesday that he'd have liked a longer deal. Brees would most certainly redeem himself.

It was not a good look. He may not be the last.

It helps to have targets such as second-year former Alabama star Amari Cooper, whose 72 catches for 1,070 led all rookies last season.

Pittsburgh did whatever it wanted, for the most part, against New Orleans. To go under that total, both teams would have to average just five points in a quarter.

They both started the day with 428, but Brees' touchdown pass to Cooks was his third of the afternoon. The Raiders were totally confused on the score. Don't be surprised if he catches seven passes, eclipses 100 yards and ends up in the end zone on Sunday.

Brees also became the second quarterback in National Football League history with 4,000 career passing yards in Week 1 games, joining Peyton Manning, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, leading the Green Bay Packers to a 27-23 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the teams' season opener Sunday. It was also the longest in the career of Brees, who previously had a long of 86 to Marques Colston in 2006. This is Brees' third contract with the Saints.

The Raiders had touchdown runs of 6 yards by Latavius Murray and 2 yards by Jamize Olawale. Vaccaro was one of the few bright spots on defense for New Orleans.

The Raiders lost 8 yards on three plays and Janikowski kicked a 47-yard field goal. That's a blow to a defense considered weak in coverage, one that finished dead last in pass defense past year. Richard is a Peabody High School product who enjoyed his return to Louisiana. With 11 minutes, 25 seconds to play, the Chargers had the ball at the Chiefs 36-yard line. He finished the game completing 28 out of his 42 pass attempts for 423 yards and four touchdowns. After purchasing a paid subscription to the service, you can stream any out-of-market game from most any of your devices. Of course, when you give up 486 yards and 35 points, you lose. However, Williams missed his entire rookie season and De'Vante Harris and Ken Crawley are undrafted rookies suiting up for their very first regular season game. Allen was sacked four games into his third season with an 8-28 record, but a handful of players he helped bring in remain in key spots, most notably Carr and Mack. "Unfortunately, we put it in a position to let the refs determine the game instead of us".

Couldn't have said it better than that. But if they aren't able to stop it, there's no doubt the Saints will keep going back to it. It is time for a new song.

Out with the old, in with the new.
