Chargers shut down Cardinals 19-3

The Chargers played their home opener tonight against the Arizona Cardinals, capping off a joint practice held between the two organizations this past week.

The Arizona Cardinals take on the San Diego Chargers in one of the NFL Preseason games Week 1 on Friday, kick off time at 9:00 PM ET, at Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, CA.

Carson Palmer completed four of his eight pass attempts for 37 yards and threw a pick-six.

After the game, head coach Bruce Arians (who had his own minor health scare this week) told reporters it was a "slight MCL strain" that kept the 32-year-old receiver out of the game, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Stanton was then picked off in his first series by Jahleel Addae. He ran it back 61 yards before being stopped at the Arizona nine yard line.

After a couple of penalties stalled Bercovici's first drive of the game, kicker Josh Lambo split the uprights from 50 yards out, putting the Chargers up 19-0.

Kellen Clemens did not see the second half, and instead undrafted rookie Mike Bercovici jumped the depth chart, and started the second half above Zach Mettenberger who did not play the entire game.

San Diego's defense allowed 209 total yards, just 63 of them on the ground, and forced a pair of turnovers, one of which resulted in the only touchdown of the game.

Cardinals: WR Jaron Brown is in the mix at wide receiver, and had a chance to shine with Larry Fitzgerald not playing. He finished with two receptions for 40 yards.

$LB Deone Bucannon hit on WR Dontrelle Inman, who reportedly did not have a concussion after the play.
