Trump Predicts More Protest Violence to Come This Summer

Jul 13, 2016, 03:02

Over the weekend, authorities, protest leaders and the mother of one of the victims have appealed for calm as over 300 demonstrators, angry at the latest killings of black men by police officers, were arrested in a weekend of intense, sometimes violent nationwide protests.

But Kelly Orians, a 30-year-old white public defender who attended a die-in protest in New Orleans, said the two movements are not - and should not be - equal. Our duty, to honor the fallen, is to ensure that Johnson's vile and cowardly act has the opposite impact from what he sought.

Enough about him, except this one thing: He said he was motivated by hatred over the deaths of two more black men - Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota - at the hands of police.

It's still heartwarming to see a Black Lives Matter and an All Lives Matter group display some solidarity, rather than more violence. As the crowd, perhaps more than 800 strong, marched through downtown Dallas, there was anger but no real tension.

In any case, the scene in Inglewood offered a sharp contrast of a widely circulated image of Baton Rouge police officers in riot gear and helmets confronting a female protester wearing a simple dress. They had no fear of encounter and dialogue.

Everyone is here to express support for the Dallas Police Department, DART Police Department and Dallas County Community College District Police Department.

In Louisiana, it was two officers responding to a call from a homeless man reporting an armed man selling CDs outside of a Triple S Food Mart convenience store. They must comply with the law and the authority that guarantee their rights, including the right to peaceful protest. When there is a police shooting, uniformed presence around the scene is ramped down as soon as possible.

Three other shootings, in Tennessee, Missouri and Georgia, have endangered police during rallies.

The Carbondale Human Relations Commission often deals with police and community issues.

The paper for the National Bureau of Economic Research, which examined thousands of incidents at 10 large police departments in California, Florida and Texas, concluded that police were no more likely to shoot nonwhites than whites after factoring in extenuating circumstances. Tampa Police had officers manning the side streets to block cars as the protesters walked down Ashley Drive.

Sterling was on the ground in front of a convenience store, restrained by officers and posing no apparent threat, when he was shot to death. "As he was putting his hands back up, the officer shot him in the arm four or five times". In her narration, she says Castile informed the officer that he was licensed to carry a firearm.

"The officer said, 'Don't move, '" Reynolds told reporters. American society has a way of reminding you if you are not white.

But the solution is not more guns. "I do think all lives matter".

Poor, troubled, crime-ridden communities are those that most want and need effective policing. But "I'm here to say we must reject such despair". It has to be us with us - a relationship of mutual respect.

Sean Hannity and his panel tonight got into a vicious shouting match over President Obama, Black Lives Matter, and the Dallas police shooting tonight, with Hannity declaring that the president should apologize to the cops for giving legitimacy to the "radical" movement. They then pray for Dallas together, and the police officers assigned to watch both groups join in.
