Park kicked off a three-country Africa tour on May 25, which also took her to Ethiopia and Uganda.

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) - Uganda is cutting military ties with North Korea to comply with United Nations sanctions over North Korea's nuclear program, a Ugandan official said Monday following a meeting between President Yoweri Museveni and South Korea's visiting president.

President Uhuru Kenyatta received her and accorded her a 21-gun salute - a rare honour symbolising the significance of her visit.

(Korean-subtitle ) "The two sides will discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of the economy and development, while also launching an anti-corruption initiative, improving efficiency in administration, boosting cooperation in the areas of security and counterterrorism and touching on regional issues and the North Korea nuclear issue".

"I ask for your cooperation in urging North Korea to give up its nuclear programme, " Geun -hye said. During the eight-day trip, the president secured promises from the countries' leaders to cooperate with the worldwide community in sanctioning North Korea for its nuclear and missile development.

Until recently, North Korea and Uganda have had very strong ties especially in police and military partnerships dating back to the 1970s.

The MOUs call for, among other things, bilateral cooperation in the energy and plant sector, a move that Seoul says could help South Korean companies make inroads into Uganda's infrastructure market.

"Our (South Korean) government has explained to the African states the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and stressed that pressure should be applied to the North to change Pyongyang's strategic calculus (that causes it to stick to its nuclear program)", the official told Yonhap.

Park's next stop is Kenya.
