Conor McGregor to miss out on $1m payday at UFC 200

It has already been confirmed that there will be no rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz in the upcoming UFC 200 scheduled on July 9 in Las Vegas.

But his decision to remain in Iceland training with teammates instead of flying to Las Vegas for media obligations has led to his ouster from what was expected to be a very big payday.

"We've had instances like this before - I did it to Nick Diaz when he didn't attend a press conference before he fought George St Pierre. We spend a lot of money with this stuff, and you have to do it, man", White said.

While the official reason given by White was around McGregor's reluctance to promote the event, not everyone was convinced. Whether or not he really is retiring remains to be seen, however one thing that is clear - UFC is working on a new UFC 200 main event.

McGregor competed mainly as a featherweight fighter in mixed martial arts, but was planning lightweight and welterweight fights. "Conor did not want to come to Las Vegas and film the commercial or be a part of any of the marketing we have". Since McGregor's tweet the UFC world has been in shock alongside no shortage of criticism towards the 27-year-old star and millionaire.

His 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo made global news, while he was surprisingly beaten by Diaz after moving up weight division at UFC 197.

Diaz meanwhile responded with his own lighthearted retirement.

And colleagues of the fallen firefighter have set up an online fundraiser to help his wife and young daughter. By order of Maryland governor Larry Hogan, the state's flag is being flown at half-staff to honor his memory.

Now, though, it appears that McGregor won't be fighting after all.

White also told SportsCenter that the UFC is in the process of securing another fight for Diaz at the UFC 200. "I don't know", White said.

I guess my work here is done I'm retiring too.
