Actor and comedian Garry Shandling has died at 66

In an update, TMZ revealed that Shandling died from a massive heart attack, with no prior warning.

Just days before he retweeted this picture of himself with Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk and comedienne Kathy Griffin. But he added that he wants people to remember not only Shandling the comedian, but Shandling the person. The show, also co-created by Alan Zweibel, was nominated for four Emmys, and ran until 1990.

"The Larry Sanders Show" was a groundbreaking show that helped spawn other edgy comedy series like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "30 Rock".

He obtained a marketing degree and when Shandling moved from Arizona to Los Angeles, he worked on such shows as Welcome Back, Kotter as a writer and was a guest host for Johnny Caron.

"Goodbye Garry Shandling thank you for your kindness and your generosity and for making me laugh so damn much", comedian Amy Schumer tweeted. "We're both watching the sun go down and I turn to Garry and said, 'Garry this is the most romantic moment of my life, and it's with you'". It was 2009 and he had just lost his short-lived job as host of The Tonight Show in "crazy, fucked up, spectacular fashion".

Following the death of comedy legend Garry Shandling, there was not only an outpouring of love for the man, but also a rush to watch his HBO show, The Larry Sanders Show.

Actor Steve Martin wrote on Thursday that Shandling would offer suggestions when Martin would host the Academy Awards. It was based on the fictional office and studio of a Late Night talk show.

Shandling never married but lived with former Playboy model Linda Doucett from 1987 until 1994.
