Nissan unveils 2016 Titan full-size pickup in NY

Nissan's redesigned half-ton Titan pickup has made its first public appearance in NY, following an initial announcement earlier this year in Chicago.

With the all-new flagship XD model of Nissan's re-imagined Titan family of pickups already in dealer lots, this volume model, half-ton 2017 Titan will go on sale in the late summer of 2016.

The company has revealed detailed pricing for its new gasoline-powered Titan XD along with a few details on the standard Titan. TITAN will initially launch as a Crew Cab model with Single and King Cab variants planned for later in the model year.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that the new light-duty Titan, hereafter referred to as the Titan half-ton, looks pretty much like the Titan XD - because it does. This engine is very similar to the big V8 powering the standard Titan models as well as several other trucks and SUVs in the Nissan and Infiniti lines.

Pricing for the Titan XD gasoline will begin at about US$35,000 with four trim levels in either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The new V8-powered TITAN XD also offers a range of popular equipment packages, allowing buyers to fine-tune the exact features they desire for work or family use. The topmost 2016 Titan XD Platinum Reserve 4x4 rings in at $55,520. Those looking for a Titan XD with the 5.0-liter Cummins diesel will have to spend at least $41,485.

The new updated V8 shares only its displacement with the old unit as Nissan has added their advanced VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift) technology and direct injection for better performance and fuel economy. The previous generation V8 in the Titan produced 317 hp and 385 lb-ft. After debuting the pricier, not-quite-heavy-duty XD diesel past year, Nissan is now offering a gasoline V-8 in the XD for $5000 less. Highlights include an integrated trailer brake control, sway control and tow/haul mode with downhill speed control, and a trailer light check system operated from the keyfob remote.
