Just hours after three bombs exploded in Zaventem airport and the Maelbeek metro station, ISIS claimed responsibility for the Brussels attacks.

The statement posted by the Amaq Agency said Islamic State fighters carried out the bombings with "explosive belts and devices".

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, French President Francois Hollande, and President Barack Obama commented shortly after the attacks Tuesday as well, with Obama pledging to "do whatever is necessary" to help Belgian authorities seek justice. The attack on the Metro came about an hour later.

"I was outraged when I woke up to the news that so many innocent citizens had been killed and injured - shocked and profoundly saddened", Trudeau said on Parliament Hill.
