For those unaware: Sony revealed the price and release window of the VR headset last night at the Game Developer's Conference (GDC). The Playroom VR will include six games that can be enjoyed with friends and family, demonstrating why we believe VR can also be an impactful experience when it's shared.

SONY Computer Entertainment has announced that PlayStation VR (PS VR), a virtual reality system that takes the PlayStation 4 (PS4) system to the next level of immersion, will launch from October 2016 in Japan, North America, Europe and Asia, at manufacturer's suggested retail price of 44,980 yen, 399 USD, 399 EU and 349 GBP. But Sony faces competition from Facebook owned Oculus who are also taking orders for their VR headset, Rift at $599.

The number of software titles in development exceeds 160, and more than 50 will launch by the end of the year, Sony said. He added that Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm are creating exclusive "Star Wars: Battlefront" content for PS VR. Along with VR set, users must buy PlayStation move controller so that they can move their hands in whatever game they are playing and with extra wires for connectivity.

The game will use the Social Screen feature of PlayStation VR to allow another player to play the game without using the PlayStation VR headset. In terms of specifications, the headset offers a 960x1080 resolution per eye, by virtue of a 5.7 inch, 1920x1080 OLED display, capable of a 120Hz refresh rate.

There is no word on when that update will be officially available to Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile users. More features and improvements are promised for this app in the future.

The package includes an external processing box to help the PS4 hardware generate VR stereo imagery.
