Read this: UUA supports abortion access in statement to Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court has blocked enforcement of a Louisiana law March 3 which called for doctors who provide abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

Advocates for women's reproductive rights are applauding the Supreme Court decision to temporarily block a Louisiana law that would have closed all but one abortion clinic in the state.

The decision comes days after the high court heard arguments in a major Texas case and hours after they voted in a private meeting on the outcome of that case.

A vote for the clinics in Louisiana could mean that Justice Anthony Kennedy, whose vote is crucial to both sides, also will be a decisive fifth vote in favor of abortion clinics in Texas. They also start pushing moral boundaries for, again, those who believe abortion should be performed in a safe environment but personally condemn the procedure. Researchers for the Texas Policy Evaluation Project, which is sponsored by the University of Texas-Austin and known as TxPEP, have been studying the impact of tightening of reproductive health services in Texas since before the state's abortion law was enacted.

The right-to-lifers have been out en masse this week, urging the Supreme Court to uphold a Texas law that is so restrictive, it would shut down about three fourths of the state's abortion clinics. Texas - whose notorious Targeted Regulation of Abortion Provider (TRAP) law aims effectively to eliminate abortion care in most of the state - defunded Planned Parenthood and has yet to expand Medicaid, creating an even more precarious situation for Texan women seeking economic security. If the law is fully enforced, there will be just 10 clinics left in Texas.

Actress Amy Brenneman and other women filed several abortion-supporting briefs, saying their abortions allowed them to control their bodies and plan for the future.

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., speaks to pro-life demonstrators outside the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington March 2.

"This reasonable requirement would help ensure some measure of health safety in what has become a unsafe business for women with an estimated 940 requiring hospitalization due to complications from an abortion in one year in Texas alone", Hall said. Justice Sonia Sotomayor said aspirin can kill, but "we don't require that people take aspirins in (ambulatory surgical centers) or in hospitals".

The movie, which takes place in a city in which various animals live side-by-side, grossed more than $73 million. The first film, Olympus Has Fallen , was a surprise hit when it debuted and London brought the action overseas.

In this case, the law would be implemented but the court will not set a legal precedent nationwide. It threatened to close the state's only remaining abortion provider, but the rule was also blocked in the courts. "Consistent with the Court's action granting a stay in Whole Woman's Health v. Cole", that order begins, the Fifth Circuit's order reinstating the Louisiana law is vacated.

After the Court of Appeals lifted the federal court's order against the law, two abortion clinics said they would no longer see patients while the other one said it expected to close down as well. Telesur TV reported that abortion providers challenged these provisions in the law which requires clinic to spend costly upgrades from corridor widths, parking spaces, and room size.

Attorney General Jeff Landry vowed to press the state's case in the appeals court. If the court's method of analysis were to balance cost against benefits, then it would be relevant that more women seem to be having surgical abortions in Texas, thus incurring greater medical risk than they would if they were having the drug-induced procedure. He suggested that it might be necessary to send the case back to the lower courts to ascertain whether, as a matter of practice, women in Texas have sufficient access to abortions going forward. In other words, the law would be enforceable while clinics and doctors appeal the ruling.
