Catholic nuns, 12 others killed in Yemen retirement home

Sixteen people, including four Indian nuns, were killed on Friday after unidentified gunmen attacked a retirement home in the southern Yemeni city of Aden.

Four gunmen stormed the facility in Aden's Sheikh Othman district on Friday, killing a guard before tying up and shooting employees, security officials said. Gunmen moved from room to room, handcuffing the victims before shooting them in the head.

A nun who survived said she hid inside a storeroom fridge after hearing a Yemeni guard shouting, 'Run, run'.

Khaled Haidar told reporters that he counted 17 bodies, including that of his brother, Radwan. All had been shot in the head and were handcuffed.

Four Missionaries of Charity and 10 to 12 other people were killed in the attack.

Still, SpaceX will keep trying to flawless its ocean landings, since ground landings aren't even possible for some missions. NASA officials said March 2 that an exact launch date for that mission would depend on when the SES-9 launch took place.

Four nuns, including one from India, also had two nuns from Rwanda and one from Kenya, informed Sunita Kumar, spokesperson of the Missionaries of Charity.

Yemen descended into a civil war in March when Houthi rebel fighters forced President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to flee to Saudi Arabia after they closed in on Aden, drawing in an Arab coalition assembled by the Saudis into the conflict.

The internationally recognized government and allied militias, which control Aden, have been advancing since last March, when a Saudi-led coalition joined the fight against the Houthis.

The Islamic State group and al-Qaida affiliates have exploited the lawlessness and created safe havens in the south, where they have conducted numerous attacks.

Reports said the attackers pretended they were visiting their mothers to gain access to the home.

The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, which backs the Yemeni government, "strongly" condemned the care home attack which it said "reveals the goals of forces which are against the return of security and stability to Yemen".

Neither ISIS nor anyone else has claimed responsibility for the attack, however the fact that the site is run by Christians is something that might conceivably encourage ISIS to launch such an attack.

In December, suspected jihadists blew up a small deserted Catholic church in the city dating from the 1950s when Aden was a British protectorate.

Yemen's war has killed at least 6,200 civilians and displaced at least 2.4 million people.
