Highlights from the 11th Republican presidential debate

That was the last question at Thursday's GOP debate in Detroit.

Republican Donald Trump is being asked to respond to attacks lodged by 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney as Thursday evening's debate got under way.

The four Republican presidential candidates debated Thursday night in Detroit, five days before the MI primary.

While Trump apologized for referring to Rubio as a "lightweight" before, he kept knocking Rubio as "little Marco" in another not-so-veiled attack at the other man. "I guarantee you, there's no problem". Rubio said Trump is "trying to con people into giving him their vote".

The attacks by Romney and other Republicans echo those of Trump's rivals on the campaign trail, as well as independent organizations that are raising money for campaigns created to prevent the businessman from clinching the nomination.

Romney told TODAY's Matt Lauer that he chose to speak out because "I couldn't stand silent anymore" after watching Trump's increasingly hostile campaign antics and listening to vulgar statements he's made. "If I were a person from Florida - they've been defrauded".

Romney is charging into the increasingly divisive White House race with a verbal lashing of Donald Trump and a plea for fellow Republicans to shun the front-runner for the good of country and party.

The debate, hosted by Fox News, will be the candidates' first face-to-face gathering since Super Tuesday nominating contests this week that gave extra momentum to Trump, 69, but did not knock out his rivals.

Rubio responding after Trump said it was important for leaders to be flexible: "There is a difference between flexibility and telling people whatever you think you need to to get them to do what you want them to do".
