Kate Winslet cries tears of joy for Leonardo DiCaprio at Oscars 2016

The Revenant has been one of the most acclaimed movies of the year so far and the first time that we have seen DiCaprio on the big screen since he enjoyed success with The Wolf of Wall Street, which also earnt him a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

Eyes fixed on stage, hands clasped in prayer, rocking back and forth: in another context, Winslet might have looked more like a deranged racehorse owner - but this was the Oscars, so any melodrama is forgiven.

She watched on with adoration as DiCaprio reaped the award for his amazing performance in the film. DiCaprio's cold streak at the Oscars finally came to an end after 23 years as he won the best actor trophy for his role of a wounded fur trapper seeking revenge in "The Revenant".

Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey added she was giving the actor a standing ovation for his win while wearing her pyjamas, adding "Bravo Leo!"

Winslet and DiCaprio's friendship has history way beyond the 1997 blockbuster Titanic. That, and the fact that they were each other's dates to the Oscars on the red carpet earlier that evening, was enough to get us crying into our Titanic VHS tapes. They met when he was just 22 and Winslet was just 21. And she just so happens to have been the first, too.

Kate dressed in a black, figure hugging strapless dress which showed off her figure, and Leo in a classic black suit.

The 40 year old actress may have been happier than DiCaprio himself.
