Vote tomorrow in Super Tuesday primary

Involvement in the political system does not have to end when the primary voting is over Tuesday. It is a day that candidates from both parties hope will be "super" for them, because there are more states and more delegates up for grabs in just one day than there have been so far in the entire primary campaign.

The four early primary states have done what they always do - weed out weaker candidates and shape the field - but these small states don't begin to tell the story. Over on the Republican side, frontrunner Donald Trump could have a chance to put away the nomination by picking up enough decisive victories to show he really is unstoppable. The candidate with the highest percentage receives two delegate votes and the one with the second highest receives 1 vote.

Of the total, 27 are delegates selected during Republican caucus meetings in each of the nine congressional districts on April 30, she said, and any party member can attend and run for a delegate spot.

So why are delegates listed on the ballot?

Nominations have been won and lost when presidential candidates have lost sight of the fact that the ultimate goal is getting 2,408 delegates to vote for you at the Democratic convention and 1,237 delegates to vote for you at the Republican convention.

For candidates the Super Tuesday vote could make or break campaigns. That is in a state where only 11 percent of MA voters are registered Republicans and 35 percent are registered as Democrats.

There are two other types of Democratic delegates to be selected and one category automatically selected due to their office.

Upon reaching the polls March 1, voters will be asked if they wish to vote in the Democratic or Republican primaries. Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who are generally the more conservative Republicans in the race, have not focused resources on MA, where Republicans tend to be more moderate.

With so many decisions to make, there's the risk of voter fatigue and concern that some won't bother with state and local races, many of which are located on the back of ballots.

That doesn't mean, however, that Cruz will win all 155 Texan delegates. Bernie Sanders of Vermont are vying for 60 Alabama delegates in the Democratic presidential race. Then, all three would get delegates in general proportion to their votes.

That's because once they cast their vote for their party's nominee for president, they will have the option of also picking people to be that candidate's delegates at the party's presidential nominating convention this summer. Each party allocates delegates differently. County Democratic Chairman John Ritchie said the change from a precinct to county convention is to align with the rules of the National Democratic Committee.

In some cases, these states will be winner-take-all.

With rival Bernie Sanders trailing in delegates, Clinton is beginning to focus more attention on her potential GOP challengers. Still, he did invest heavily in SC , with 200 paid staff on the ground and an aggressive television advertising campaign.

Delegates are awarded to presidential candidates based on results of votes in each of the state's 36 congressional districts.

In the Republican race there are 2,472 delegates up for grabs overall, and the overwhelming majority are state delegates allocated during the primaries.

Polls are open throughout MA from 7 a.m.to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

At the state level, the Republican convention will be May 12-14 in Dallas.
