"Rocky" Actor Tony Burton Dead at 78

Kelley told BBC he had not received a diagnosis at that time, but his health was so poor he wasn't even able to see the successful spinoff film, Creed.

Along with Sylvester Stallone and Burt Young - who played Rocky's future brother-in-law "Paulie" - Burton's character, Tony "Duke" Ever, was the only other character to appear in all six movies. However, this time of mourning is marred by the lack of knowledge into what led to finding the Rocky actor dead.

"Sad news. RIP Tony Burton".

Before becoming an actor, Burton - who was from Flint, Michigan - briefly fought professionally and won Flint Golden Gloves light heavyweight titles in 1955 and again in 1957.

Burton came to acting from an unusual place: prison. While also returning for the sequels, Burton continued his television cameo cavalcade while nabbing distinguished roles in Assault on Precinct 13 and, notably, as garage owner, Larry Durkin in The Shining.

Weathers confirmed Burton's death Thursday night on Twitter. Curiously, he was also announced to re-team with Baker on another film "The Truth About the War in Heaven: "Declaration of War" in which he was apparently to reprise his role from 'Exorcism".

The former football player and boxer appeared alongside Stallone and Weathers in the first six films of the hit franchise as Apollo Creed's trainer.

Burton played Duke, Apollo Creed's trainer.

Sylvester Stallone, who stars in the franchise, led the tributes after relatives announced Burton's death in a southern California hospital from suspected pneumonia following a long illness. Keep in mind, however, that he simply was too ill to go a movie theater, which is not too unbelievable. Whenever he would come home [to Flint] other people would just come over'.
