Feb 28, 2016, 15:58

Bernie Sanders in the South Carolina Democratic primary Saturday with the help of an overwhelming vote by African Americans, gaining the lift she sought going into the delegate-rich Super Tuesday primaries.

Clinton's win Saturday night was fueled by strong support from minority voters, giving her campaign a strong jolt heading into Super Tuesday when 11 states hold Democratic primaries or caucuses.

During a raucous victory rally, Clinton briefly reveled in her sweeping support from SC voters, hugging backers and posing with them for selfie photos.

Clinton took the podium at a convention center here to the chants of "Hillary!" Trump is the frontrunner in the Republican race for the party's presidential nomination, as both have respectively won three of their party's first four contests.

In 2008, former President Bill Clinton made statements during the campaign that were seen by some, including influential South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, as questioning the legitimacy of the black presidential contender.

Hillary Clinton threw in subtle shots at Donald Trump in a victory speech amid a blowout win in the SC primary Saturday. In all, Clinton delivered death to Sanders in the Palmetto State, but the story following this primary will be Clinton's strength with voters who rejected her in 2008. It is part of a pitch she'll have to make to voters in the all important Super Tuesday states.

Hillary Clinton was forced to defend her previous views on same-sex marriage after she was quizzed by an audience member during a live debate. But in SC, three-quarters of voters said Clinton is honest, more than the two-thirds who said the same of Sanders. "Instead of building walls, we need to be breaking barriers".

A small crowd met at the Vista restaurant Pearlz to watch the night's election coverage and even though the Vermont Senator lost to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, volunteers and other supporters of the campaign said they were keeping their heads up and looking forward to Super Tuesday. "America never stopped being great".

Clinton is ahead in most, but Sanders has the edge in MA and his home turf of Vermont.

Early results of exit polls taken for The Associated Press and television networks find that Clinton won the support of 8 in 10 African-Americans, who made up the majority of voters in Saturday's primary. She also won white voters-39 percent of voters-53/47 over Sanders.

Hillary Clinton Wins the Democratic Caucuses in Nevada
For instance, it is a caucus system and as we saw in Iowa as well, it can be hard to determine a victor in this system. Clinton shook off some of the anxieties shadowing her campaign with a solid victory in Saturday's Nevada caucuses .

"When you are president, the entire world listens to every word you say", Clinton said in Birmingham, Alabama, in an apparent attack on Trump's badgering of rival candidates and his caustic remarks about immigrants and Muslims.

Questions about Clinton's honesty have dogged her throughout the campaign and appeared to be a weakness in earlier contests. Bernie Sanders just seconds after the polls closed at 7 p.m. ET. He was set to hold a rally in Minnesota, one of the states that caucuses next Tuesday.

Clinton admitted, once again, that she had "evolved" on the issue - and was "glad" to have done so. "We are not taking anything and we're not taking anyone for granted", she said.

Sanders, by comparison, spent most of his time outside the state.
