Hillary Clinton wins Saturday's SC primary

US Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has won SC primary over rival Senator Bernie Sanders by a massive margin, ahead of the crucial multi-state contests known as Super Tuesday.

Clinton has a one-delegate edge over Sanders after her narrow win in Iowa, her sweeping loss in New Hampshire and a five-point victory in Nevada. They will be apportioned according to the share of the vote that Clinton and Sanders won.

Nonetheless, the great advantage the Palmetto State has shown over the other early-voting states to the north and west is its proven ability to influence the outcome of subsequent Southern primaries on Super Tuesday. However, she has a substantial lead among superdelegates, the Democratic Party leaders who can vote for the candidate of their choice at this summer's national convention, regardless of how their states vote. "We are not taking anything, and we are not taking anyone, for granted".

The South Carolina electorate was heavily supportive of President Obama, who beat Clinton in the state in the 2008 contest. "We need to show by everything we do that we really are in this together".

"To South Carolina, to the volunteers at the heart of our campaign, to the supporters who power it: thank you", Clinton tweeted as CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News all called the vote in her favor at the close of polls on Saturday, February 27.

Racial Inequality at the Academy Awards Visualized
This is interesting considering this year Oscar winners will be allotted only 45 seconds for their acceptance speech . Long story short: the Academy Awards and the Oscars are the same thing, but there's more to know .

In 2008, when Barack Obama secured a huge win in SC that helped make him the US's first African American president, he did so by winning the support of 78 per cent of black voters.

She downed an espresso at a neighboring coffee shop and eyed a strawberry cupcake, telling a staffer, "If you get one, I can have a little taste".

Black primary voters were more likely to say they trust Clinton than Sanders to handle race relations, with 4 in 10 saying they only trust her and less than 1 in 10 saying they only trust him.

White women were evenly divided between the candidates, while 7 in 10 white men said they voted for Sanders. "Our grass-roots political revolution is growing state by state, and we won't stop now".

But the New York Times said if Clinton racks up similar proportions of the black vote in the South on Tuesday as she did in SC on Saturday, it would greatly reduce Sanders's chances to win the Democratic nomination.

This may have been one of the most anti-climactic primary nights ever, and it certainly puts Bernie Sanders on the ropes heading into Super Tuesday. Along with blacks, she won most women and voters aged 30 and older, according to early exit polls. Clinton lost the state overwhelmingly to Obama in a heated contest where her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was seen by some as questioning the legitimacy of the black presidential contender.

South Carolina's electorate climbed from 55% African-American in 2008 to 62% in 2016.

Sanders has taken a very different approach to reaching out to minority voters than Clinton, who is more comfortable with the politics of identity and speaks eloquently and forcefully on the ills of white privilege.

"This campaign and our victory is for the reverend, a presiding elder, of the AME church, who looked at all the violence and division in our country and asked me, 'How?"

"Most African Americans never heard of Bernie Sanders before six months ago", Fowler said in an interview.
