For scale: Windows 10 is currently installed on 200 million total devices; an additional 4 million machines right now would represent 2 percent of the total install base.

About 22 million of those devices belong to business or education customers, though Microsoft reports more than 76% of its enterprise and education customers are in active Windows 10 pilots.

It is the largest single deployment of Windows 10 since its release six months ago, she said.

The government is also adding the Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, and the Surface Book to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Products List (APL), meaning that those Surface devices are all approved for Defense Department agencies to purchase and use. This means the devices meet the security and interoperability requirements set by the DoD.
