Monkey can't own copyright on selfie, U.S. court rules

If your camera gets snatched in the future and interesting photos are taken, you shouldn't have to worry about going to court. This is an issue for Congress and the president. "If they think animals should have the right of copyright they're free, I think, under the Constitution, to do that".

When British nature photographer David Slater embarked on a trip to the Indonesian island of Sulaweai in 2011, he had no idea that a crested macaque would steal his thunder. He picked up a tourist's unattended camera and began taking photographs of the forest floor, some of other maraques and several of himself.

'Force Awakens' crosses $250M globally after record Friday
The screening is part of the Joining Forces initiative, which has received strong support from Star Wars' new director, J.J. Since beginning its overseas rollout Wednesday, " The Force Awakens " has made an estimated $129.5 million internationally.

Since then, a battle for the copyright of the photo has raged.

Slater isn't the only one that PETA has targeted over the monkey selfie-Wikimedia, which hosted the photo, was asked to take it down.

New York's population rises, remains fourth in U.S., Census says
Its gain of 365,703 people also pushed it past 20 million, becoming the third state to reach that milestone. Seven states lost population over the same time period, including West Virginia, Illinois and Vermont.

The Macaque monkey, identified as a seven-year-old wildlife sanctuary named Naruto, had stood to be in rolling in bananas for life if the lawsuit brought by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) had succeeded. Slater has said he is exploring legal action against some of those outlets.

Upset with the decision Jeff Kerr, general counsel for PETA US, repotedly said that the move exposed the hypocrisy of those who exploit animals for their own gain.

Martin Shkreli Fired From CEO Job at KaloBios Pharmaceuticals
Tony Chase, a board member that joined KaloBios in November when Shkreli acquired 70% of the company, has also left the company. Shkreli has been criticized earlier for his stance of raising the price of a key drug but this case is not related to it.

Even though Judge Orrick plans on dismissing the case, he has given PETA permission to file an amended lawsuit, and the animal rights group says it plans to do just that.
