Saad, Jackets upset Pens

Columbus entered the game as the only team without double-digit points in the standings, but a two-goal second period and a quality effort by Pittsburgh native Brandon Saad were enough to get the Blue Jackets a road victory inside Consol Energy Center.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-6-0, 20 pts) lost a tight inter-division matchup Friday night 2-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets (5-12-0, 10 pts) in a disappointing effort against the NHL's worst club.

Saad clearly didn't mean to rope Fleury into his celebrations, but the result is quite amusing regardless.

"With the group that we have, it should sort of flow a little bit better than it is right now", Crosby said.

Patric Hornqvist deflected a shot from the point past Bobrovsky with 52 seconds remaining to spoil Bobrovsky's shutout bid. Hornqvist appeared to tie it with 13 seconds left but it was waved immediately and the call was upheld on review.

Flames 3, Capitals 2 (OT): Sean Monahan scored his second goal of the game 1:40 into overtime as the Calgary Flames recovered after giving up a third period 2-0 lead to defeat the Washington Capitals in overtime.

The Blue Jackets, who played the night before in Pittsburgh, had the early edge.

Yet the momentum and the feel-good vibes that the offense was starting to figure it out faded 48 hours later.

Boone Jenner had a goal and two assists, Ryan Johansen had a goal and an assist and Brandon Saad scored for the Blue Jackets. After the puck hit off the errant stick of Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, Blue Jackets left winger Scott Hartnell settled it and chopped in a shot past a diving save attempt by Fleury. The Penguins do not shoot as much as Johnston would like on the power play.

The Ducks narrowed their deficit to 2-1 in the second by exploiting a 5-on-3 power play, with right winger Corey Perry poking the puck off goalie Thomas Greiss's chest before Nielsen's double. Pittsburgh's best sequence came late in the second period when the top unit kept Bobrovsky busy only to have a slap shot from the left circle by Malkin clang off the crossbar with Crosby raising his arms in frustration as the clock wound down.

"We should have won a few (at home) already, but now we have this one and we're pretty happy about it", Karlsson said.

The biggest problem for Johnston was his team's "shooting mentality".

"I don't mind that", coach John Tortorella said.

The Penguins play at New Jersey tonight.
