Warriors match franchise record

Nov 13, 2015, 16:52

Stephen Curry scored 46 points, 21 in the first quarter, and the Golden State Warriors improved to 10-0 on the season with a 129-116 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night. Last years MVP hit 15 of 25 shots from the floor, including 8 of 13 from three-point range to lead the way.

For the Warriors, Draymond Green was two rebounds shy of a triple double, finishing with 23 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds. However, after waves of enthusiasm and smart execution carried them to a small lead in the first quarter, the Warriors defense shut them down which enabled them the comfortable lead they worked with for most of the game, right up the finish, leading them to a 9-0 start, the best in franchise history.

It has become incessantly hard to comprehend how much better the Golden State Warriors appear to be this year - especially when you compare the current team to last year's 68-win season.

Rather, it is that shooter out of Davidson College, Stephen Curry.

Andrew Wiggins led Minnesota with 19 points while rookie Karl Anthony-Towns continued to look good, picking up his sixth double-double (17 points, 11 caroms). Golden State finished the game by draining a total of 18 three-point shots and shooting at a high percentage at 47.3%.

Warriors' general manager Bob Myers is also appreciative of Walton's efforts, as he stated in a recent interview: "I didn't think we'd start 9-0, and he's a large part of that".

"I was still kind of in rhythm", Curry said with a smirk. This is a new and bothersome variation on the "Marc Gasol is not in game shape" meme we've all been talking about since the season began, but Gasol's limited movement, poor conditioning, and now his lingering neck issues have combined to make him much less effective than his norm, to say nothing of the Super Gasol we saw in the first half of last season.

The Wolves struggled to guard Curry all night as most teams do, but Steph Curry is simply an unbelievably fun player to watch.

But the Timberwolves' bench got them back into the game just before the final stanza, and Golden State's lead is now single-digits. "Yeah, things are going well, but you can't take anything for granted". Curry is averaging 31.9 points per game and averaging 33.9 minutes of court time per tilt. I repeated the idea that the Warriors "ground out a 16-point road win" to myself in my head and had to laugh.

You are no longer the best basketball player on the planet.

Goran Dragic finished with 14 points and Hassan Whiteside had 14 rebounds for Miami. He's that impressive. So, while the Wolves lost at home for the fourth time and still haven't given the hometown fans the sweet taste of victory in front of their very own eyes this season, there remain plenty of reasons to be thrilled about the future of basketball in Minneapolis, starting with Towns, Wiggins, and Rubio.

Also Curry's precious daughter, Riley, added a few adorable attention to his name by making appearances at his press conferences last season, as if her famous MVP father needed any more coverage.

IN 102, at Boston 91: Paul George had 26 points and 10 rebounds to help the Pacers win for the fifth time in six games. The Warriors led 40-27 after one quarter as Curry put up 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-5 from downtown.
