Many teams guilty of doping, claims Arsène Wenger

The Gunners themselves were on the wrong end of a doping controversy when a Dinamo Zagreb player was found using prohibited substance in the Champions League, in a game that the Gunners lost 2-1.

Compared with the likes of cycling, football has largely been unmentioned when it comes to the issue of performance-enhancing drugs; however, that could be set to change if Wenger explains his comments and the FA decide to investigate them further. "I have played against a lot of teams who were not in the same frame of mind".

"For me the beauty of sport is that everyone wants to win but there will only be one victor". He didn't get recognition.

Wenger has regularly called for more sophisticated testing in football and, more than two years ago, warned journalists that sport was already "full of legends who are in fact cheats".

"Looking back today, I say it was a handicap for us", he continued.

Many believe the exposure of Russia's widespread doping culture could be merely the starting point for further revelations - with other sports expected to be studied in more depth.

"I still think it's a little bit of a disadvantage, even for the fans, they do not feel completely at home, and that can transmit to the players".

The FA are adamant their testing procedures prove there is no problem with doping in England. "I have asked many times in Geneva [for that to be changed]".

"The FA have been steroid profiling all urine samples taken from every player tested in the Football League and Premier League since January 2014, having been steroid-profiling all Premier League players in previous seasons. I hope we do not have a big problem with doping but we have to try to find out".

For that, manager Arsene Wenger was rewarded on Tuesday with the Barclays Manager of the Month award.

Galatasaray striker Lukas Podolski believes he should have been a regular first-team player during his time at Arsenal.

Wenger, whose contract expires in 2017, said: "If, tomorrow morning, I am told, "Goodbye and thank you" by Arsenal, I can not promise you that I will not look to continue to work, to live my passion".
