Thurs @ 12:10 pm - The deal is done according to multiple sources – Johnson has agreed to a new four year, $53.5 million contract, with $30 million guaranteed.
11:45 am - Throughout his career, Titans running back Chris Johnson has delivered big time numbers across the board like the announcer of an online bingo game – fast and furious.
But unfortunately for him (and the Titans), his success has led him to hold out this off-season, and the ongoing contract dispute between Johnson and Tennessee has been one of the biggest story lines throughout the off-season, the lockout notwithstanding.
All of that could be coming to an end soon though, and while a deal isn’t imminent as of right now, the possibility exists that things could come together very quickly in next few days, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter is now reporting that talks between the two sides have intensified as of late and are expected to continue on today.
Johnson has been asking to be paid as one of the top players in the league regardless of position, putting him into the same salary echelon as superstar quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
The Titans have remained adamant in their stance that they will not negotiate with Johnson until he comes to practice, but with the season right around the corner, it’s likely that they’re softening their stance somewhat in an effort to get him into uniform in time to have Johnson ready to play in week one.
