Over the weekend, news broke of the Giants decision to allow Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora to seek out a possible trade, provided it brings back a high round draft pick in return.
That compensation was initially rumored to be no lower than a first round pick in next year’s draft, but the latest news seems to point towards New York lowering their price somewhat, with league sources reporting the Giants would be amenable to receiving a second round pick back for Umenyiora’s services.
For the time being, it seems as though at least five teams have shown significant interest in acquiring Umenyiora, including the Ravens and Patriots, although it’s not clear if any of those teams would be willing to part with that high of a selection to get Umenyiora in the fold.
Umenyiora’s injury history could be playing a factor in the hesitation shown so far, but it’s likely that a deal will come together sooner or later, given the Giants apparent willingness to move him for the right price.
