File this post under the “completely unsubstantiated rumors” category, but it looks as though the Jets may be inching closer to landing the biggest fish of the free agency period in cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, with a major contract in the works.
Eric Schmidt at thePigskinReport.com is reporting (via Incarcerated Bob on Twitter) that the Jets and Asomugha have “agreed on a deal in principle” and the All-Pro corner will soon be joining Gang Green to play opposite his equal in Darrelle Revis this fall.
I’ll caution you against taking this story to the bank for the time being, as none of the major players in the NFL news breaking business have commented about a potential deal being complete, but it’s interesting to note that Incarcerated Bob has a pretty solid track record of breaking deals before the major media outlets, so it’s possible he’s right on this one.
In any case, if Incarcerated Bob ends up on the right side of this one, we’ll be able to look back and say we were right on top of it. If not, it’s just another rumor, which as the name of the site would indicate, is pretty much our bread and butter.
As always, we’ll stay on top of this and every other story around the league, so be sure to stick tight with us through it all to stay up to date.
