Steelers send Dixon to injured reserve list

A season that began with significant promise for Pittsburgh quarterback Dennis Dixon has ended with a thud, as the Steelers have reportedly decided to place Dixon on the injured reserve list as a result of the torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news a short while ago, and indicated that Pittsburgh will likely stick with the combination of Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich at quarterback for the time being, until Ben Roethlisberger is able to return in week five.

Dixon had shown himself to be a talented playmaker at the position in the limited playing time he’s received over the past two seasons, and as such, the Steelers will undoubtedly choose to keep him around next year as the primary backup to Roethlisberger.
