It’s not often that players who have been placed on the injured reserve list are capable of making a comeback in the middle of the same season, but Buffalo linebacker Kawika Mitchell is hoping to do just that.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mitchell has asked the Bills for his release, in an effort to sign on with another team in need of veteran leadership at his position later this year, once he’s fully recovered from the foot injury he suffered at the start of the season.
If Buffalo grants Mitchell his wish and provides him with an injury settlement, Mitchell would be free to sign anywhere he chooses, although it’s doubtful that many teams would be interested given his injury concerns as of late.
Mitchell played a vital role in the Giants Super Bowl championship team in 2008, and signed a five year deal with the Bills a few weeks later.
