Coming off a 41-10 drubbing courtesy of the Chargers, it’s little surprise that the Cardinals are taking a hard look at their leadership on the field, especially at quarterback, where Derek Anderson has done little to prove he’s worthy of being the starter going forward.
Up to this point, head coach Ken Whisenhunt has refused to even consider a switch at the position, preferring to stick with Anderson as long as possible in an effort to allow promising young rookie Max Hall to develop without all the trauma that can come in an NFL season.
That move has been questioned extensively by fans and media alike in Arizona, and while Hall hasn’t done anything in the regular season to warrant a promotion, his time may be coming very soon according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com. It’s not yet set in stone, but the most likely course of action at this point is for Whisenhunt to demote Anderson and replace him with Hall, giving the Cardinals a fresh start offensively.
Whisenhunt is expected to deliberate on who he’ll start at quarterback for a short while at the very least, preferring to look at the game film and settle his nerves just a bit before making a decision. Obviously, the choice to push Hall into the starting lineup isn’t an easy one, but given the way that Anderson has played thus far, it may be more prudent to see what they have in the rookie, rather than waiting even longer to give him a full evaluation.
