Bills desperately seeking trade partner for Lynch

For some time now, Buffalo has been the butt of many a joke around the league and often for good reason, given their inability to do much of anything right on or off the field. In spite of that, the Bills players have soldiered on, putting up decent fights against superior teams, aside from the 38-14 demolition they suffered at the hands of the Jets last Sunday.

Unfortunately, their determination on the field has not been matched by intelligence in the front office, as general manager Buddy Nix and his staff remain adamant in their desire to receive a third round pick back in return with any trade proposal involving running back Marshawn Lynch.

Understandably, no team in the league has been willing to even consider such a ludicrous stance up to this point, and the Bills have had to resort to phoning prospective teams themselves in an effort to drum up interest in Lynch, who has done little this season to warrant much if anything at all in compensation.

The two main targets in that exercise seem to be the Packers and the Eagles, given the need both seem to have right now at the running back position. Neither club has said much to encourage such discussion, but injuries have certainly taken their toll on both as of late, and without an upgrade in their depth chart sooner or later, they could be looking at making a deal in the coming weeks.

In any case, if the Bills are to find a trade partner for Lynch’s services, they’ll have to come down from their lofty asking price, and set a much more realistic goal, such as a conditional fifth round pick that has the ability to escalate up to a third if Lynch’s production goes through the roof.

That kind of deal may or may not be amenable to the teams listed above, but it would definitely be a step in the right direction for the Bills upper management, in that it would show that they’re capable of acting rationally and that they understand the current market for players of Lynch’s caliber.

Any such deal will likely come down to the wire, making October 19th a day to mark on the calendar for fans in Buffalo as a date to mark the turn around of their team, or its continued downfall.

As always, we’ll keep you posted.

Uh… seriously, you think trading Lynch for a conditional 5th round pick would mark the franchise's turnaround?

Thanks for the comment Jomo. It's not about the actual compensation they receive in exchange for Lynch, it's about the Bills management doing something intelligent and getting something back in return for a player that has no future with the franchise. That would be a major shift, in my opinion, from what they've been doing as of late.
