It may not end up producing much in the way of results, but Jets fans should take heart this evening as multiple sources are reporting that New York head coach Rex Ryan visited with cornerback Darrelle Revis at his home over the weekend, and the early indications seem to be positive.
Ryan is well known for speaking his mind and not holding back when it comes to subjects he’s passionate about, so it’s likely that his conversations with Revis were straightforward and right to the point. Given the immediate boost that Revis would bring to the Jets overall level of talent and leadership on the field, there’s little doubt that Ryan spent much of his time pushing his standout cornerback to come back as soon as possible.
Obviously, there’s a whole lot more to the story than just that, and Revis has clearly decided to do whatever it takes to get himself a monster contract, this year or next, making any plea from his head coach semi-irrelevant.
That said, it’s possible that Ryan’s discussions with Revis could yield fruit fairly soon, as he very likely traveled to Revis’ home with the Jets best offer at this point, giving the star player something serious to mull over for a day or two.
Fans of the team have to hope for both sides to come to their senses soon and meet somewhere in the middle contractually speaking, allowing Revis to take the field in the team’s opener and letting the Jets walk away with their heads held reasonably high in knowing they didn’t cave in to Revis’ demands completely.
Either way, we’ll be watching the wire throughout this week to see how things play out, so be sure to check back often for the latest update to this story.
