When receiver Kassim Osgood signed with the Jaguars in the off-season, it’s doubtful that he envisioned himself ever having to deal with a situation like the one he faced last night.
According to Dan Scanlan of the Florida Times-Union, a gunman holding a bag over his face broke into the Jacksonville home where Osgood and a former Jaguars cheerleader, Mackenzie Rae Putnal, were watching television last night.
The intruder, who was later found to be Putnal’s ex-boyfriend, knocked both Putnal and Osgood to ground with his pistol before pointing the gun at Putnal’s head and threatening her with her life.
Putnal and Osgood escaped down a hall when the gunman tried to force them to the floor, and proceeded to jump off a balcony to the ground floor, afterwhich Osgood ran to a neighbor’s home to call the authorities. Putnal acquired her own weapon and traded fire with the man, with both missing each other, before police arrived.
Osgood reportedly suffered just a few scrapes and bruises from the incident, and seems to be in good shape at this point. He signed a three year contract with the Jaguars as a free agent this past spring, and scored the winning touchdown for them in their opening day win over Denver.
